Basic Registration
Turnover up to ₹12 lakh — petty food businesses, small manufacturers and home-based units.
State License
Turnover ₹12 lakh – ₹20 crore — most mid-size processing, packaging and storage units.
Central License
Turnover above ₹20 crore, importers, and units at airports/seaports or operating in 2+ states.
- Valid for 1–5 years, chosen at the time of application
- Mandatory for manufacturing, processing, packaging and storage
- Renewal must be filed before expiry to avoid penalty
Documents: business registration proof, ID/address proof of proprietor, list of food products, processing unit layout plan, water test report

Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra
- FDA Maharashtra processes State FSSAI licences for units based in the state
- Local municipal corporation health and trade licence required alongside FSSAI
- Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) registration for pre-packaged goods sold in the state
- Shop & Establishment registration with the local Gram Panchayat / Municipal Council
- Periodic inspection by FDA food safety officers for hygiene and labelling compliance
